Getting there

Train + bus — JR train to Shiretoko-Shari via Abashiri (about 5-6 hours from Sapporo with transfers), then a roughly 50-minute bus to Utoro; flying into Memanbetsu and taking a 2-hour bus is another common option. It is the most isolated area in the catalog, and renting a car is strongly recommended to reach its scattered sights.

Needs an overnight stay: it does not work well as a day trip.
