Getting there

Train — JR 'Yakumo' limited express from Okayama (connecting with the Sanyo Shinkansen) to Matsue Station, about 2h40; direct flights also run from Tokyo-Haneda to Izumo Enmusubi Airport (1h20), with a bus onward to Izumo Taisha.

Needs an overnight stay: it does not work well as a day trip.
